Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right and essential for the achievement of sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. In Latin America and the Caribbean, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation remains a significant challenge.
This report provides an overview of good practices in the development and implementation of public policies for compliance with SDG 6 in the region. The report aims to provide policy-makers and practitioners with a comprehensive understanding of the key elements necessary for the successful implementation of policies that support sustainable water and sanitation services for all.
Based on the analysis carried out and the trends and gaps identified, the study concludes with a set of lessons learned and a series of recommendations that will contribute to ensuring universal and equitable access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation and hygiene services for all by 2030.

El acceso al agua limpia y saneamiento es un derecho humano fundamental y esencial para alcanzar el desarrollo sostenible. El ODS 6 tiene como objetivo garantizar la disponibilidad y la gestión sostenible del agua y el saneamiento para todos. En América Latina y el Caribe, asegurar el acceso al agua limpia y al saneamiento sigue siendo un desafío significativo.
Este informe proporciona una visión general de las buenas prácticas en el desarrollo e implementación de políticas para cumplir con el ODS 6 en la región. El informe tiene como objetivo proporcionar a los formuladores de políticas y profesionales una comprensión completa de los elementos clave necesarios para la implementación exitosa de políticas que respalden servicios sostenibles de agua y saneamiento para todos.
Sobre la base del análisis realizado y las tendencias y brechas identificadas, el estudio concluye con un conjunto de lecciones aprendidas y una serie de recomendaciones que contribuirán a garantizar el acceso universal y equitativo al agua potable y a servicios de saneamiento e higiene adecuados para todos para 2030.
