SIWI at global peace conference in Uppsala
On December 12, SIWI's Håkan Tropp will hold a presentation about the connection between water knowledge and policy during a global peace conference in Uppsala.
The conference “Challenges for a Peaceful World – An Agenda for the XXIst Century“ is jointly hosted by Uppsala University and Wallonie-Bruxelles International on December 11-13 to celebrate the centenary of the 1913 Nobel Peace Prize winner Henri Lafontaine. Belgian lawyer and encyclopedist Lafontaine founded the International Peace Bureau and devoted his life to promote dialogue for peace between nations and cultures.
SIWI’s Håkan Tropp has been invited to speak during the conference, and will in his presentation “Water in the XXIst Century: The Knowledge – Policy Interaction” address the need for more efficient policies based upon scientific forecasts that aims at preventing crises rather than coping with them.
Also participating in the conference are amoung others Hans Corell, Former Under Secretary General of the United Nations, Serge Brammertz, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia, and Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Vice Chair of the International Panel for Climate Change of the United Nations.
