Seminar: Is there such thing as innovative financing for ecosystems management?
Anita Lazurko built upon her experiences with engineering consulting in Canada and water governance in Malawi to pursue a career seeking solutions to interdisciplinary problems related to water, agriculture, and development. She is currently studying a Masters of Science in Environmental Sciences, Policy, and Management in a joint program between the Central European University (Hungary), Lund University (Sweden), and the University of the Aegean (Greece).
In recent years, Anita has partnered with the International Institute for Sustainable Development to research innovative financing through climate bonds for multifunctional climate adaptation infrastructure on the Canadian prairies, and she explored methods for identifying and quantifying the externalities of resource recovery and reuse with the International Water Management Institute in Colombo. She is now writing her masters thesis in the southern Africa water context, to better understand how the overlapping subsystems of green finance and adaptive water governance can better consider multifunctionality and uncertainty. Anita continues her involvement with Engineers Without Borders Canada as a member of the board of directors.
