Celebrating World Water Day
As World Water Day (WWD) falls on a Saturday this year, the major events of WWD were instead hosted today.
Linking to many other national and international events worldwide. The event was attended by His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince of Japan who addressed the audience alongside a number of officials from UN organisations, the Government of Japan, national and international organisations from the water and energy sectors.
Proceedings focused on this year’s theme: Water and Energy – dovetailing with the overarching focus of September’s World Water Week in Stockholm. I was privileged to address the participants on behalf of SIWI and announced Professor John Briscoe as the 2014 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate which was celebrated by the audience. Originally from South Africa, and now at Harvard, Professor Briscoe has a broad background in policy-making, research and practice with country experience from Africa, Asia and the Americas.
