Internship: UNU Institute for Water, Environment and Health – Water Recycling and Reuse (closed)

On the way to sustainable development through achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG target 6.3 demands all countries halving the proportion of untreated wastewater by the year 2030.

The reductions in the volumes of untreated wastewater need due priority as research-based evidence suggests that using untreated or inadequately treated wastewater in agriculture may result in health and environmental risks. Despite multiple benefits from water recycling and safe reuse, the progress on the treatment of wastewater remains very slow in developing countries, particularly in low-income and lower-middle-income countries.

At UNU-INWEH, we are in the process of data collection and synthesis for the development of an online tool, Resource and Risk Assessment Model (RRAM), which can assist a range of stakeholders in knowing the potential for resource recovery (such as water, nutrients, and energy) as well as possible associated risks (such as pollution, land degradation) from a given quality of water, if used as a source of irrigation.

We are looking for an intern to assist in the development of RRAM and support the work on water quality and water recycling and safe reuse.
