Partnering to Champion the Next Generation of Water Innovators

 Xylem, a leading global water technology provider, is global founding sponsor of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program Watermark. Emma Housman, Program Manager, Corporate Social Investment, shares more about Xylem’s support of the competition and the company’s commitment to youth solving water.

Q: As global founding sponsor of Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Xylem has been involved for more than two decades. Can you talk more about Xylem’s longstanding relationship with SJWP?

A: As a water technology leader, Xylem is committed to helping drive innovation across the sector to help water operators address the toughest water challenges of our time: water scarcity, resilience to climate change and water affordability. As part of our Watermark Corporate Social Responsibility program, we are honored to support the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition.

Watermark’s mission is to provide education and access to safe water to ensure healthy lives, gender equality and resilient communities. By championing the Stockholm Junior Water competition and its student participants, we are helping foster the next generation of water innovators who will develop the technologies and solutions that solve water for communities for decades to come. We are incredibly proud to partner with Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) to help create this opportunity to showcase the finalists’ amazing work and encourage them to pursue careers in the water and sustainability space.

Q: Why is Stockholm Junior Water Prize so important in engaging tomorrow’s water leaders?

A: Thanks to the great efforts of our partner SIWI over the years, this competition provides a powerful global platform and focal point for talented young minds interested in inventing new approaches to improving water security and equity.

It is a critical moment in time for water, but also one with incredible new opportunities. The need for clean water and safe sanitation to prevent disease and protect human health has never been more important or apparent. At the same time, digital technologies are creating new possibilities to address urgent water issues faced by communities around the globe.

The younger generation today is uniquely positioned to drive progress: they grew up with – and have a powerful command of – technology, and can help drive adoption of digital solutions in the water sector. They are also passionate about sustainability and want to pursue careers that make a difference. Xylem is thrilled to support and celebrate young water innovators, and we want to thank SIWI for this opportunity and congratulate all of this year’s Stockholm Junior Water Prize finalists.
