The Stockholm Water Foundation (SWF) is the proud awarding body of the Stockholm Water Prize – presented by H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden – and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, awarded by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The Foundation works in close collaboration with SIWI and plays a central role in elevating global water leadership.

Today, SWF is pleased to announce the appointment of three new board members: Laila Sukkariyyah, Greger Wikstrand, and Anna Söderholm. Together, they bring a powerful blend of global experience, digital innovation, and strategic partnerships that will strengthen SWF’s mission to advance water solutions both in Sweden and worldwide.

Laila Sukkariyyah is Director of Global Programs at the Water Environment Federation (WEF), a nonprofit technical organization with more than 30,000 members globally. Representing one of SWF’s founding partners, she brings deep expertise and a strong international network to the Foundation’s work.

Greger Wikstrand, CTO at Fujitsu Sweden, now returns to an active role within SWF, having been part of its founding phase. His perspective on digitalisation and AI offers valuable insight into the future of water and technology.

Anna Söderholm, Deputy CEO at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, leads business development, marketing, and international partnerships. She has been instrumental in the transition of SIWI’s international WASH portfolio to IVL in 2025 – a collaboration that is now expanding.

This year, IVL will also join the Stockholm Junior Water Prize jury and host a study visit to Sjöstadsverket – one of the world’s leading testbeds for water treatment technology. Operated by IVL and KTH, the facility plays a key role in both national and international research, serving as a hub for testing, piloting, and innovation across academia, industry, and the public sector. The visit will be part of the finalists’ programme during World Water Week 2025.

Anette Scheibe Lorentzi, Chair of SWF

“We are excited to welcome Laila, Greger, and Anna to the board. Their experience and perspectives enhance our ability to meet future water challenges and help position Stockholm as a global hub for recognising outstanding contributions to water solutions.”

The newly composed board will convene for the first time on 11 June, looking ahead to a dynamic World Water Week – where the 2025 laureates of the Stockholm Water Prize and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize will be honoured.

A new website, stockholmwaterfoundation.org, will be launched in the coming weeks where you can follow SWF’s work more closely.
