The much anticipated zero draft of the outcome document for the UN Summit in September 2015, which will adopt the Post-2015 Development Agenda, has just been published. SIWI is encouraged by the very promising news that Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, and all its targets, are still included.
SIWI applauds this reaffirmation by the UN that water plays a fundamental role in building peaceful, prosperous, fair and sustainably developed societies and strongly supports this pivotal step towards a post 2015 agenda where an all-encompassing water goal has a prominent place.
Entitled ‘Transforming our World by 2030 – a New Agenda for Global Action‘, the draft covers the four components of the Agenda: an opening Declaration; the Sustainable Development Goals and targets; Means of Implementation and the Global Partnership; and Follow-up and Review.
