Since 2008 Maria has been working in the international water and sanitation sector. She has worked with governments, NGOs and donor agencies in Sierra Leone, Jordan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Kenya.

Before joining SIWI Maria worked on the Sierra Leone Threshold Program, supporting coordination and strategic planning within the water sector, and advising on approaches to improve capacity of the water utility to provide services to the urban poor. Prior to this, Maria has worked with numerous NGOs on both urban sanitation and rural water and sanitation programming.

Maria holds a MSc from Cranfield University in Community Water and Sanitation and is currently studying for a MSc in Environmental Sustainability with University College Dublin.
