SIWI opens new office in Colombia
SIWI’s Water & Sanitation team has seen a growth in demand in recent months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Not least due to the increased focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in a crisis response context resulting in a collaboration with UNICEF in mapping responses and providing recommendations. There is a great need for our expertise related to WASH with many Latin American governments responding to the spread of Covid-19 in a decisive way by improving access to WASH services. Our work with UNICEF has already made a difference and we foresee growing need.
The travel restrictions necessitated in recent months have put a halt to the workshops SIWI’s Water & Sanitation team had been running regularly in Latin America. This creates greater need for being able to work more regionally which the opening of the new office will facilitate. It will also enable us to greatly limit our air travel. Water & Sanitation has never been more important and SIWI continues to work towards solutions for sustainable sanitation.
Dr. Alejandro Jimenez , Director of SIWI’s Water & Sanitation department looks forward to the new office: “it will provide support to the growing range of SIWI projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, while being also closer to our partners in the region”
All three roles being recruited for are based in Colombia with expectation of travel when safe and possible.
