WGF delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals
This brochure produced by the UNDP Water & Ocean Governance Programme (WOGP) – of which UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility is one of the delivering mechanisms – illustrates how effective water and oceans governance holistically address the Sustainable Development Goals.
The global challenges related to water and ocean governance are many. For example, open defecation is practiced by nearly 900 million people and nearly 1,000 children die each day due to preventable water and sanitation-related diseases. Over 80 percent of wastewater is estimated to be released to the environment without adequate treatment. These issues are clearly addressed in SDG 6 and SDG 14. But the reach of water and oceans governance doesn’t stop there.
A new brochure produced by the UNDP Water & Ocean Governance Programme (WOGP) – of which UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility is one of the delivering mechanisms – illustrates how effective water and oceans governance holistically address the Sustainable Development Goals.
WOGP helps countries achieve integrated, climate-resilient, sustainable and equitable management of water and ocean resources, and universal access to safe water supply and sanitation. In doing so, WOGP helps countries accelerate achievements towards achieving the entire 2030 agenda.
