I am Vasilis. A student from Cyprus, Nicosia. I am 17yo and keen on trying out new experiences whenever I get the chance. I believe I am an energetic, social and fun person to be around. My hobbies as of now are lifting weights, long-distance running, playing video games and learning Spanish through Duolingo.
Tell us what the water concern in your country is!Water scarcity in Cyprus is a major and growing problem that is connected to climate change, overuse of groundwater, agricultural water demand etc. If no action is taken, this issue will lead to serious consequences, including the depletion of water resources, increased conflicts over water use, reduced agricultural productivity, and negative impacts on both the environment and public health.
From where comes your interest in water?I recently noticed just how much water was in our country's dams and compared it to some years ago, and I noticed that it decreased my a major amount and that's what sparked my interest in water
This is what I think is one of the solutions for a sustainable future:I believe by utilizing our project, Aquawise, to its full potential, we can create a solution for water scarcity and other water-related problems in Cyprus, which can later be used throughout the whole world.

AquaWise Smart Irrigation and Water Management System
AquaWise is a smart, automated irrigation system designed to optimize water use through customizable schedules – start/stop times, duration, flow rate, and total volume. It connects to the irrigation network and adjusts water distribution based on real-time data and plant’s production. The system integrates weather forecasts, environmental conditions (humidity, rainfall, wind, temperature, light), and local soil moisture sensor input to improve efficiency and reduce water waste. AquaWise is scalable for use in gardens, farms, or large agricultural setups and it includes machine learning. It requires basic hardware: affordable soil moisture sensors and a Raspberry Pi programmed in C++. The system controls a hydraulic valve and, if required, a pump. A pilot version is currently implemented in a school garden.
