SIWI’s Amman office was founded in 2023. Its team members are water governance and climate change experts and engage in advocacy, research, and capacity building. With climate change unfolding, water scarcity in the WANA region is growing to unprecedented levels. Addressing this challenge requires new approaches to the governance of scarce water resources in the region.
The Amman team is helping address water challenges with a focus on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Access to WASH is one of the most urgent development issues and key to improving health, creating sustainable societies, and eradicating poverty.
The Amman team provides counsel on WASH services to governments and other decision-makers in the face of water shortages and climate change. By increasing the water governance capacity around WASH services, the Amman team contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 6 regarding universal access to clean water and sanitation. Drawing on its deep local and regional knowledge, the team also supports other SIWI departments’ projects and activities across the WANA region.
