The Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform) is a global multi-stakeholder Platform hosted by SIWI that includes more than 40 stakeholders working towards holistic management across the land-freshwater-coasts and ocean continuum. The S2S Platform is excited to announce its new chair, Tom Panella, who begins his three-year tenure as of January 2024.

Tom Panella will use his extensive global network in water, climate, and resources management to champion the S2S Platform and advance the global understanding and application of source-to-sea management. His previous roles have been within resource and capital management, often focusing on water, and he has many years of practical experience and technical expertise to bring to the role of Chair. He is well known in the water community as well as across other sectors and will lead the S2S Platform towards a broader more diverse foundation of partners that accelerate the adoption of source-to-sea management at national, regional, and sub-national levels.

Panella will work closely with S2S Platform Partners, the Steering Committee, and the Secretariat to deliver on the 2021 – 2025 Strategy and beyond.

The source-to-sea approach recognizes that what we do on land and in rivers, lakes and aquifers can have impacts further downstream, along coasts and in the ocean. By taking these linkages into account, the approach applies a holistic view of the source-to-sea system, which will result in greater benefits for the entire system.
