My name is Anna, I am from Belarus.
Water pollution is a problem for our country. Therefore, I offer my own way of dealing with pollution.
Petroleum products are the main pollutant of water resources in Belarus. I wondered if there is an affordable and environmentally friendly way to adsorb petroleum products from the water surface. In the course of research, I found out that broad-leaved cattail is a good natural sorbent.
I will be happy to present my work at the competition!
Tell us what the water concern in your country is!Studies have shown that about 100 tons of oil products are discharged into the water bodies. Accidental spills of oil products and their entry into water bodies can lead to a deterioration in the health and life of the population.
This is what I think is one of the solutions for a sustainable future:I believe that broad-leaved cattail can be used as a sorbent for petroleum products. In terms of characteristics, it is not inferior, and sometimes even surpasses the sorbent that rescuers use in their work. Thus, oil spills can be cleaned up.

The use of plant materials as sorbents of petroleum products
Accidental spills of oil products and the release of oil products into water bodies can also lead to deterioration of health and life of the population. Are there effective, affordable, environmentally friendly ways to eliminate oil pollution? What natural materials are the most effective for removing oil and gasoline from water surfaces? The search for answers to these questions became the main reason of our research. Hypothesis: plant fibrous materials can be used for the sorption of petroleum products when they enter water bodies. Thus, the hypothesis that it is possible to find available plant materials with the help of which it is possible to collect effectively oil and oil products from the surface of the water has been confirmed.
