About the Water for Climate Pavilion

The Water for Climate Pavilion is a collaborative effort of over 90 organizations working together to unify and amplify the voice of the international water community in the climate space. It provides a shared platform for dialogue, learning, and coordination, ensuring that water-related knowledge and solutions are visible, credible, and connected to decision-making.

The Pavilion works across the full COP cycle, supporting continuity from one climate conference to the next and linking discussions at COPs with ongoing policy processes, research, and implementation efforts.

Who we are

The Water for Climate Pavilion is coordinated by SIWI in partnership with governments, international and intergovernmental institutions, civil society organizations, and private-sector actors. It is formally supported by a group of governments representing different regions and perspectives, reflecting the Pavilion’s global scope and shared ownership.

All partners are united by a commitment to science-based policies that place water at the centre of climate action. Together, they contribute expertise spanning water management, climate adaptation and mitigation, development, finance, ecosystems, and governance, allowing the Pavilion to address climate challenges across sectors and scales.

What we do

The Pavilion’s core objective is to strengthen recognition of water security, sound water management, and water risk reduction as essential climate solutions. These dimensions of climate action remain under-utilized, despite being central to adaptation, resilience, and sustainable development.

Through curated dialogues, events, and collaborative formats, the Pavilion works to ensure that water is meaningfully reflected in climate discussions and outcomes under the UNFCCC. It also supports knowledge exchange that helps governments and institutions design stronger and more coherent climate strategies.

In particular, the Pavilion contributes to efforts to improve Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), ensuring that water considerations are integrated in ways that reflect how climate impacts are actually felt and managed on the ground.

Influencing UNFCCC processes

A growing body of research demonstrates the central role of water in climate resilience, adaptation, and risk management. The Water for Climate Pavilion works to make this knowledge accessible and actionable within UNFCCC processes by fostering trusted relationships between climate and water communities.

Rather than operating as a single event space, the Pavilion functions as a connective mechanism across negotiations, policy dialogues, and implementation efforts. This includes sustained engagement with Parties, negotiators, and observer organizations to help bridge gaps between technical knowledge and negotiation dynamics.

At COP30 and beyond, areas of particular focus include the continuation of the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action to strengthen coherence across COPs; the development and finalization of indicators under the Global Goal on Adaptation, including water-related targets; follow-up on enhanced NDCs and NAPs; and synergies across the three Rio Conventions and the Ramsar Convention.

By supporting continuity, coordination, and collaboration, the Pavilion helps ensure that water is treated not as a sectoral issue, but as a foundational element of effective climate action.

Working together across COPs

The Water for Climate Pavilion is designed to be open, collaborative, and adaptive. It invites engagement from non-water stakeholders and actively seeks collaboration with other thematic pavilions and initiatives, recognizing that climate solutions depend on integrated approaches.

Through this work, the Pavilion contributes to advancing water-related COP Presidency initiatives and cooperative ventures, and to strengthening alignment between climate, water, and development agendas over time.
