Who can participate?
Stockholm Junior Water Prize is open for projects striving to improve water quality, water resources management, water protection, water, and wastewater treatment as well as water education and social aspects of water. The projects may focus on local, regional, national, or global topics. The participants can compete with a practical project in the field of technology, natural and social science using innovative development methods and approaches to solve water problems.
What kind of projects can I propose?
All projects must use a research-oriented approach, including scientifically accepted methodologies for investigation, experimentation, monitoring and reporting the results. Contestants in theoretical and applied science as well as projects aiming at solving community water problems are all welcome.
Only projects that have been nominated by the national organizer in each participating country are admissible to participate in the national competitions. The national and international competitions are open for students between the ages of 15 and 20, who are attending secondary high school or its equivalent. Students are not allowed to be enrolled at a university while conducting the competing project. Projects can be carried out by an individual student or a group of students, however, no more than two students can represent the project in Stockholm.

An international jury of experts within the water field appoints the winner of the international competition.
The judging criteria of the international jury are based on the overall relevance of the project, both in terms of scientific significance and overall importance for environment and society. The jury further assesses the creative ability, methodology and subject knowledge reflected in the work. The practical skills, as well as the report and presentation, are also grounds for judgement.

During their time in Stockholm, the international finalists take part in daily social, educational, and cultural events, including a tour of Stockholm city. One of the highlights of the World Water Week in Stockholm, the thrilling prize ceremony, features inspiring speeches from distinguished members of the water community as well as entertainment and the famous “flag parade”.
Before arriving at the International Final in Stockholm, the finalists are required to prepare their digital i-posters. The display i-poster is part of the contestants’ project and used to exhibit the essential parts of the work. The display i-poster may include illustrations and demonstration material.
Participants are required to provide a written report and a project i-poster display for public exhibition. The report must be written in English including an abstract as well as a separate description of the project for publication in the finalist catalogue. A detailed and accurate description of the support received in carrying out the project should also be included.
Together with figures, photographs, tables and annexes, the report must not exceed 20 pages of A4, including the preliminary matters. The national organizer is responsible to submit the requested information. Brief nomination guidelines are included in the form.
