SIWI’s high-level panel on water diplomacy is a tradition at World Water Week since 2018 and this year it is organized together with the other organizations in the Stockholm Hub on Environment, Climate and Security.
Sign up for World Water Week to follow the panel on Wednesday 31 August at 11 am CEST.
There is mounting evidence that the climate crisis and environmental degradation have profound implications for human security. For the most part, climate change is primarily felt through its impact on the water cycle, which also means that water is an important entry point to finding solutions.
The High-Level Panel will discuss this from many different perspectives, with a focus on the multiple benefits of water-related solutions. If planned well, they can not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make societies more resilient. They can also reduce tensions, mitigate conflict risks, and contribute positively to peace. In this high-level panel, we talk about how this insight can help us proactively manage and mitigate emerging security risks posed by environmental degradation and climate change.
