The Foundations for Source-to-Sea Management Toolkit is a companion to Implementing the Source-to-Sea Approach: A Guide for Practitioners and Source-to-Sea Framework for Marine Litter Prevention: Preventing Plastic Leakage from River Basins developed as a result of piloting the source-to-sea approach in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon River Basin, Viet Nam, and Lake Hawassa Sub Basin, Ethiopia.

It includes worksheet templates to capture learning from Steps 1, 2 and 3 of the source-to-sea approach, with particular attention to the source-to-sea nature of the characterization of priority flows, assessment of stakeholders and of governance instruments and institutions. These are provided as both worksheets to be filled during workshops and as templates to be filled for desktop study and analysis. Completed examples from the pilot studies are also offered.

These are complemented by case studies to help understand the benefits of the source-to-sea approach to management and the lessons learned outlining insights to support their implementation. These knowledge resources are freely available to all that wish to apply the source-to-sea approach.
